Maddalena, a midwife in Buchenstein around 1900, remembers her journey to Innsbruck when she thought she would never return. After giving birth, she decides to set off again and hikes northwards across the Dolomites. On the way, she reflects on her first journey to Innsbruck, where she trained as a midwife and experienced a secret love story. The story is based on the life of midwife Maddalena Decassian.
